TVS to collaborate with BMW

TVS Motor Co, the popular South Indian two wheeler maker, is in the process of getting into a partnership with BMW two wheelers. TVS would finalize the association before the on-going fiscal year.

H.S Goindi, TVS Motor Co President (Marketing) declined to comment on the nature and details of the partnership for which the company is in talk with BMW Bike, which has also started selling high-end performance bikes in India since 2010. However, it is certain that TVS would be responsible for local assembly and sales & distribution of BMW Motorrad products in Indian market. Goindi also mentioned that TVS will also start exporting the company’s latest model, executive segment 125 cc bike, TVS Phoenix 125 from February 2013. Phoenix 125 will be competiting with Hero MotoCorp, Glamour, Bajaj Discover 125 and Honda Shine. TVS targets the urban customers with its new model, which delivers a mileage of 67 kmpl. TVS Phoenix 125 is priced at Rs 49,990 for drum brake version and Rs 52,000 for the disc brake variant.

While TVS might be seen assisting the German bike maker with assembling of its motorcycles locally, BMW’s prowess in developing high end motorcycles would help TVS a great deal in the fast developing Indian bike market. TVS could also be seen considerable input from the guys at BMW in the development of its upcoming 250 cc bike.
