Hosur-based bike maker TVS has revealed the Apache RTR 200 Fi Ethanol motorcycle which runs on an E85 Ethanol fuel.
Ethanol is domestically produced from renewable plant sources. Using Ethanol as a fuel will also reduce carbon monoxide emission, particulate matter and sulphur dioxide. The use of Ethanol as a fuel will also reduce the import of petroleum and increase energy security. Ethanol is also non-toxic, bio-degradable and safe to handle, store and transport.
The company has made some mechanical changes to make it reliable, as compared to its petrol-powered siblings. The ethanol powered Apache gets electronic fuel injection with twin-spray-twin-port system that ensures better power delivery while burning cleaner and emitting few gases. It gets same 200cc single-cylinder motor tuned to produce 20.7 BHP at 8500 rpm and peak torque of 18.1 Nm at 7000 rpm. The top speed is a claimed 129 kmph under test conditions, which is the same as the Apache RTR 200 Fi 4V.
Visually, the overall design is similar to standard TVS Apache RTR 200 Fi except for the green graphics on the fuel tank to differentiate from the regular ones.
