These are the first spyshots of the upcoming TVS Akula 310 motorcycle, which is based on the latest BMW G310R, spotted testing in Bangalore-Hosur road.
Back in February, TVS Motor Company surprised us with the unveiling of the Akula 310 in concept avatar. This test mule is still heavily disguised with a temporary Karnataka registration plate, but it’s design looks much similar to the concept model. The recent spyshot hints that its launch is nearing. Reports state that the ‘Akula’ name which means shark in Russian, will be replaced with the Apache RTR 300 moniker.
Based on the BMW G310R platform, the Akula 310 is powered by the same 313 cc, liquid cooled, single-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. This unit produces 34PS of power and delivers a peak torque of 28Nm, which is quite satisfactory for its segment. Once launched, it will compete with the likes of the Yamaha YZF-R3, KTM RC 390, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the upcoming Bajaj Pulsar CS400.
Another report claims that the launch of Akula 310 is delayed due to supply constraint, which means the launch could be delayed upto sometime in 2017. Both the G310R and Akula 310 (Apache RTR 300) will be made at a dedicated assembly facility within TVS’ Hosur plant.
