Home-grown car maker, Tata Motors is planning to launch a sports version of the Tiago. The Tiago, Tata’s best-seller ever since its launch as we know the sales have met beyond the company’s expectations.
The Tiago is a car in which Tata had high hopes and it has been an instant success. Its good sales have seen positive sales growth for Tata Motors. This is mainly because of its first-in-class features and an attractive price.
This has prompted the automaker to drop plans for the Bolt Sport, which was displayed at this year’s Auto Expo. The Bolt Sport was expected to hit showrooms later this year because of the lukewarm response of the original Bolt, this turned out to be one of the main reasons for it being dropped. It makes more sense to introduce a sportier version of the Tiago, than that of the Bolt.
Faster version of the Tiago is likely to sport a stiffer damping, a lowered suspension, and a body kit. The Tiago Sport is expected to have a turbocharged version of the existing 3-cylinder petrol engine producing around 120 BHP, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. Apart from the engine the Tata Tiago Sport will get some other mechanical changes as well.
The Tiago hot-hatch is expected to be launched at the end of the year. Once launched, there is no doubt that Tata will price the Tiago sport aggressively in order to perk up sales. It will take on an established competitor in the Abart Punto from Fiat and soon to be launched Baleno RS.
With a slew of interesting cars on the horizon waiting for launch like the SUV Hexa and a compact sedan Kite5, Tata Motors is changing and changing fast. It has taken its design to the next-level and it’s obvious that the Tiago Sport will attract people. It will also mark Tata’s entry into a newly formed segment – the hot hatch segment.
