Tata Motors are looking to launch a performance version of their popular hatchback, the Tiago, to the Indian market. The hatchback, christened the Tiago JTP, is developed in partnership with Jayem Automotives-Tata Motors showcased the performance hatchback during the 2018 Auto Expo which was held in February.
Now, the Tiago JTP was spied undergoing testing on the outskirts of Ooty. The car was seen with the logo, badge and the number plate area being covered on the rear. This indicates that the hatchback is in its final stages of development and is bound to be launched soon.
The Tiago JTP will feature a new grille, smoked projector headlamps, bonnet and fender vents. It will also have 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels as well as side skirts to make it look more sportier. We can expect the Tiago JTP to feature multi-drive modes, which consists of Sport and City modes.
Engine-wise, the Tiago JTP will be powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing 110 BHP of power and 150 Nm of torque. It will be paired alongside a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Tiago JTP will get an updated suspension, giving it better handling as well as a reduced ground clearance compared to the stock Tiago. Rivals include the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS, Fiat Abarth Punto and the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI. We can expect the Tiago JTP to arrive sometime in early-2019.
