You’re looking at the first live pics of the Tata Nexon on road, the home-grown carmaker’s yet-to-be-launched compact-SUV gives a clean, minimalist and modern look.
The Nexon now basks in detailed and pictured glory, in production form and looking every bit as concept with coupe-like silhouette styling as we’d expected. After all, it does get its name Nexon which means ‘Revised’ in Korean, and this car isn’t particularly conventional, is it? In a world where compact SUVs deviate little from the appearing bread box shape, this one’s a breath of fresh air.
Equipment wise, it looks like the Nexon will come with projector headlights, a ceramic side finisher, contrast roof, 16-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights and LED daytime running lights in addition to a piano-black smiling grille with honeycomb structure.
Inside, things don’t get any less non-conformist. A big luxury German car-like dashboard layout with much sleeker design is trimmed in complementary colours and materials. There’s also a Harman-designed 6.5-inch touch-screen infotainment system with 8 speakers for audio output, voice control and command recognition on the top-end grade.
The Nexon will be on-sale with a choice of 2 engine options – a 1.2-litre Revotron turbocharged petrol engine and an all new 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel engine. Although the spec of the petrol engine is not yet revealed, the diesel engine churns-out 110 PS and 260 Nm of torque. Sending power to the front-wheels mated to an all-new 6-speed manual gearbox, it features first-in-segment Multi-Drive modes.
Tata Nexon will directly compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra Nuvosport and Ford Ecosport. It will debut by or before the festive season in 2016.
