News is out that Tata Motors have reportedly decided not to proceed with the launch of TaMo sub-brand, the Indian stalwart had revealed earlier this-year that they will launch an exciting new performance sub-brand, named TaMo, which will take their identity around the world a notch higher.
Despite the introduction of its sub-brand TaMo at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, and showcased the RaceMo sports car, which was supposed to be the first model to wear the TaMo badge and confirmed for launch by the end of 2017. The RaceMo was admired globally and people were awaiting the launch of the sports car.
Now it seems that the company is at cross-roads on launching its new sub-brand and is facing a hurdle in launching it. The entire sub-brand will come at an investment of ₹250 crore, which Tata Motors board members felt its better if spent on the CV segment, in which it has a strong presence. This step would halt the development of the TaMo RaceMo and in turn, hold their ambitious plans.
The RaceMo has been designed in Italy and is built on the MOFlex sandwich structure. The Revotron 1.2-litre turbocharged 3-cyl engine, seen on the Tiago and Tigor, would see an increase in power to 186 BHP and that would enable the car to complete 0-100 KMPH in less than 6 seconds. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed AMT.
In fact, TaMo is the short form of Tata advanced mobility. This 2-seater sportscar was expected to be priced around ₹25-30 lakhs which would be a bargain for such a sportscar. Now it seems that Tata’s advanced engineering leaps have been overweighed by their problems in the CV department. An opportunity lost? Maybe. Only time will tell…
