After huge success of Indigo CS, Tata Motors India is all-set to launch the compact sedan version of the Manza called the CS. The company knows all too well how successful a formula it is to chop a mid-size saloon’s boot to bring length under the crucial sub-4-metre mark to avail of the consequent excise duty benefits of small cars.
In terms of design and styling Manza CS will be identical to the Manza till the C-pillar, the boot will short and rear bumper will also be slim. The head lights, tail lamps, front grille and doors will be same like Manza. The interiors too will largely remain same with some downgrades possible on base variants and it will share most of the parts with its elder sibling.
Under the hood, the Manza CS is likely to get the Vista’s 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines. However, it will be interesting to see how well Tata manages to integrate short boot to the Manza, and to price as well. The upcoming compact sedan is speculated to plug the gap between the Indigo CS and the regular Manza.
As per the sources, the Manza CS is expected to hit our roads by the end of 2013 probably in November with a price of Rs. 30,000 to 40,000 cheaper than their longer counterpart, that is around Rs 6 – 7.5 lakh. And it could be marketed as a notchback version of the Vista.
As this year, 2012 is marked as a ‘Year of the MPV’ in the history of Indian car market, 2013 could be marked as a ‘Year of the Compact Sedans’. We expect to see the launch of 5 compact sedans next-year, the Honda Brio Amaze, the refreshed Maruti Dzire CS, the Mahindra Verito, the Tata Manza CS and the Toyota Etios CS. Thus the competition will be tough and challenging for Manza CS, to make its presence.
