Folks at IndianCarsBikes have spotted the upcoming Tata’s Kite-based compact sedan – dressed in a black and white camouflage – in town. The Kite hatchback will be launched in second half of 2015, while the Kite compact sedan will go on-sale by March-2016.
Based on the XO platform that also underpins the existing Indigo eCS, the platform has been modified for better stability and strength for the Kite twins. From the spy pictures, this car seems to have a fastback design with a sloping roofline and the boot seems to be a neatly integrated into the design compared to most other sub-4 metre sedans on-sale in India today.
Plus looking at the person sitting on the rear seat suggests there is enough headroom (picture below). The Kite compact sedan is seen riding on a new multi-spoke alloy wheels with a unique pattern. As far as features are concerned, the Kite twins are expected to be equipped with features such as a multi-function steering wheel, Harman-developed infotainment system and air-conditioning.
The Kite compact sedan is likely to be powered by a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol, a 1.05-litre three-cylinder diesel and a 1.4-litre four-cylinder diesel. Power will be transmitted to front-wheel via a manual transmission and AMT (automated manual transmission) transmissions, and an e-clutch system could also be in the offing. Tata may also offer CNG and LPG equipped variants of the cars.
As per the reports, the Kite hatchback will be called Glade while its compact sedan counterpart could be called Boom. Furthermore, both the Kite twins are likely to be manufactured at the Tata Motors’ plant in Sanand, Gujarat.
