Tata Altroz Turbo possible to have power in excess of 110 HP

It is no secret that Tata Motors will be introducing the turbocharged petrol version of their premium hatchback, the Altroz. This is in order to rectify the problems faced by its owners on the car being underpowered, particularly the petrol model. The Altroz Turbo will all but arrive during the upcoming festive season, which is not far away from now.

In fact, spyshots of the car undergoing testing have also emerged. The car snapped was also seen in a new shade of blue, which might be introduced on the hatchback come the festive season. As of now, there is news that Tata Motors have now registered the Altroz Turbo with the RTO authorities.

It is reported that the Turbo version of the premium hatchback is slated to produce power in excess of 110 BHP. The Altroz Turbo will be featuring the 1.2 litre turbocharged petrol engine as seen on the Nexon. The engine makes around 118 BHP of power and 175 Nm of torque.

But Tata Motors may be tuning it in order to obtain a perfect power delivery for the Altroz. The 110 BHP mark exceeds the figures of the pre-production version of the car by 8 BHP. The pre-production Altroz Turbo, showcased in Geneva was also claimed to deliver 140 BHP of power.

We can expect that number to be increased on the production version of the car. These numbers are on par with the Volkswagen Polo, whose 1.0 litre Turbo also makes 110 BHP of power. The only given premium hatchback likely to offer more power will be the next generation of the Hyundai i20, whose Turbo motor would likely be making 120 BHP of power.

At present, the Altroz comes with both a petrol and a diesel motor. The former is a 1.2 litre, three-cylinder motor which makes 86 BHP of power and 113 Nm of torque. On the other hand, there is a 1.5 litre, four-cylinder diesel motor making 90 BHP of power and 200 Nm of torque.

These are offered with options of a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT transmission. Tata could be offering the upcoming Altroz the option of a dual-clutch automatic, albeit later on in its life cycle. With the given formalities set to be completed soon, we can expect the Altroz Turbo to create a lot of hype amongst auto journals and enthusiasts.

It is slated to be priced at around Rs.8-10 lakhs depending upon the variants it would be coming with. The Altroz Turbo will be taking on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and the Volkswagen Polo. Tata Motors will hope that the Altroz Turbo manages to lure potential buyers into their showrooms by offering a good amount of performance when launched.
