Suzuki A:Wind Concept – ExteriorView

At the Thailand Motor Show this-year, Suzuki revealed the A:Wind concept. The A:Wind looks striking to say the least in this yellow shade that Suzuki has revealed. The exterior of the car looks very simple, yet futuristic. The concept car has twin chrome bars on the grille that extends all the way into the headlamp cluster; the concept gets projector headlamps and angled LED turn indicators integrated into the same cluster which gives the front of the car a smiling facade. From the side, the A:Wind gets a simple character line that stretches all the way from the front quarter panel till the rear of the car, and the rear looks like a mixture of the Maruti Suzuki  Alto 800 and the current Maruti Suzuki A-star.

The hatchback is 3600mm long, 1600mm wide and 1540mm high, and these dimensions show that it is more of a tall-boy hatch, but the pictures don’t show that it is one, which is a commendable job by the designers at Suzuki. The 16″ inch wheels on the concept look funky in a good way, but we won’t be surprised if those wheels don’t make it into production. The A:Wind will be powered by the 996cc 3-cylinder K-series engine, which is already being used in a few other cars like the new Maruti Suzuki WagonR and the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and has been proven to be a peppy engine. This engine will be mated to a CVT gearbox in the A:Wind.

The interior of the concept look subtle, but serves its purpose well. Suzuki has chosen to go with light and up-lifting colours in the hatch. Some of the components like steering wheel and switchgear will be shared with other Suzuki hatchbacks to keep development time and costs low. There is some up-market stuff as well, like the Touch screen infotainment system in the dashboard.

The A:Wind will go into production in 2014, and will eventually make it to the Indian market as well. We can expect Maruti Suzuki to showcase a production ready version of the A:Wind at the 2014 Auto Expo.
