The very first Spy Shots showing the production-spec Maruti Suzuki Compact SUV codenamed ‘YBA’. Earlier on we heard production would start in 2016 but apparently things are moving much faster. AutoCarIndia say the Maruti’s new mini SUV could be called ‘Maruti iV4’ and will be unveiled at 2016 Auto Expo, which however seems very late as the mini SUV looks almost production ready.

First showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo, the Maruti Suzuki XA-Alpha Concept SUV seems to be taking shape. From the spy pictures, it’s evident that the mini SUV borrows design cues from Suzuki iV-4 Concept SUV, which was first displayed at 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Though the production ready variant of iV4 is the new Vitara, it will not be on-sale in India anytime soon.
Maruti’s Ford EcoSport rivalling mini SUV looks eye-catchy with the distinctive styling and in a muscular stance and will likely wear its spare wheel on its tailgate, even though the car in our spy photos doesn’t have one fitted. As per reports, the YBA is packed with equipment to put up a serious fight with the EcoSport, and upcoming compact SUVs from VW and Tata Motors.

To keep the costs-down some things have been toned down, like the grille, which is a simpler one with horizontal instead of vertical slats. Also the wheel arches don’t have excessive cladding and the prominent skid plate seen on the concept seems to have been left out as well. However, the side profile of the mini SUV clearly has a lot in common with the XA-Alpha Concept.
The YBA will slot below the S-Cross and is likely to be powered by engines from Maruti’s current range. And one of the trusted source say the company is working on an all-new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that could make-way on YBA, as a worthy rival to the 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbo-petrol engine on the EcoSport.
