Spy pictures of the Nissan Micra are already floating on the net, some even released by the Pulsar-Club of Thailand where the car was brought up for some promotional video shoot and testing purpose. Recently, our good friend at IndianAutosBlog shared some spy shots of the low-cost Micra (codenamed G02A) caught testing on the streets of Chennai. The folks here report the upcoming base-variant of Nissan Micra is likely to be christened as ‘Active’.
Although the thin camouflage at the front hints at a subtle change for the Micra Active, the rear end is exactly same as the existing model. Since this one is a low cost version some of the mechanical systems in the car including the power steering is been made in India. Also the luxury features like keyless-entry and start-stop system may not be a part of the package.
Furthermore, to reduce the costs, Nissan is planning to omit the DriverSide Airbag that is currently standard across the Micra range. We also expect the stripped-down Micra to lose out on some of the NVH material and chassis safety structures that are currently designed for stricter European norms. Thus, expect a bit more cabin noise than before. The engine and the chassis will remain same as it is on the current Nissan Micra. The newer version Micra will also bare a new name.
With the low-cost version of Micra, Nissan plans to target the low-priced hatchbacks already in the market which brings it in competition to Hyundai i10, Maruti Suzuki WagonRand Chevrolet Beat. The stripped-down variant of Micra is expected to be upto Rs. 70,000 cheaper than the current Micra, the Micra Active might be launched in the next-few-months.
