Already Fiat has launched cars in its hatchback as well as in compact SUV segment and now it is planning to make its name in a compact MPV which is likely to become a rival for Maruti Ertiga. Fiat India has not officially announced about its plan for a compact MPV. But seeing the growth of Fiat 500 in the global market which was a cute 2-door hatchback into a 4-door, 5-seater Fiat 500 L and now again by the spy shots available over the web it is clear that the car has been further extended into a compact MPV named Fiat 500 XL which would include third row of seats.
The Fiat 500 XL spotted is in its production version and is expected to begin its production at Kragujevac plant, Serbia by the end of this month, while deliveries will be effected across Europe from end of July and thereafter it is expected to be launched in India where compact MPV’s are in great demand in the current market. The 500XL is a 7-seater MPV and the 6th member of the Fiat 500 family. It is based on the 5-seater 500L, bearing the same platform and wheelbase.
Coming to the technical specifications, Fiat 500 XL would continue to have 1.4-litre and 0.9-litre Multi-Air petrol engines and 1.3-litre Multijet and 1.6-litre Multijet II diesel power trains in the global market, whereas in India it is expected to use 1.3-litre Multijet engine with VGT which is currently being used in Maruti Ertiga. Along with this, Fiat has lined-up many cars to India such as Fiat Linea, Abarth Punto, a compact SUV and a range of Jeep models. If launched in India, Fiat 500 XL would be priced in a slot of Rs 7 to 10 lakh.
