Volkswagen CrossPolo caught testing in India
In December-2012, we reported our readers that Volkswagen India plans to launch the VW CrossPolo in the India sometime in 2013. But so far, there was no real pictures of the CrossPolo caught testing in India. Now 4 months after the report, the folks at IndianCarsBikes.in have got the first proof of VW Cross Polo caught testing at Chakan in Pune, home to VW India.
The Volkswagen Cross Polo is to the Volkswagen Polo hatchback what the Skoda Fabia Scout is to the Skoda Fabia hatchback. Volkswagen is expanding its range of its Polo hatchback line-up, late last-month the company introduced the Polo GT with a 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine as a replacement for the phased out top-of-the-line Polo 1.6-litre variant. Still, three more variants are remaining that include the Polo CNG, Polo GTD with Vento’s diesel mill and Cross Polo.
Although the Skoda Fabia Scout is a big failure and is one of the rarest sights on the roads, Volkswagen must have their own reasons of believing in this CrossPolo for India. They must ensure CrossPolo doesn’t go the same way as the Scout. Similar to Scout, CrossPolo is a more masculine version of Polo with a body kit that allows the car to have a look of a crossover. Chunky cladding and roof rails will complete this crossover looks.
At the moment, it is unclear of what engine options will CrossPolo come with, but if we are asked, we will definitely want the newer 1.2-litre TSI motor to propel the car. Running the CrossPolo on the current underpowered 3-cylinder motors of the regular Polo will be plain discouraging! Also it remains to be seen if Volkswagen India gives the Polo Cross a higher ground clearance to go with the car’s butch new looks.
