Recently, we reported Volvo is working on long-wheelbase S60 sedan for China. Now reports emerge the company is also working on a new high performance version of Volvo S60. In association with Polestar – the tuning firm that now offers power upgrades for the current range of Volvo products – is said to be handling the more potent S60, we’ve heard it can move on up to 400 horsepower, or maybe even more pressed out of the machine under the hood.
The person who took the pictures says that the car’s engine sounded more like a rumbling V8, though it could have been a modified version of Volvo’s straight-six turbo. The V8 engine already seen in XC90 and S80 offers 315 hp. The same engine has the capability to generate 650 bhp if tuned accordingly. The engine seen on the S60 Polestar will be mated to a sequential transmission sending power to Haldex four wheel drive system.
Whatever engine the company finally decides on a few enhancements are for sure – Haldex all wheel drive system, Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes all fitted into the 19inch BBS alloy Pirelli PZero tyres.
If this high performance Volvo Polestar S60 actually becomes a reality we should see the company making announcements sometime in 2013 before which we should get a few more details of the vehicles exterior and internal features and confirmation on which engine will actually be seen under its bonnet. This vehicle once it is launched will compete with BMW M3, Mercedes C63 AMG and Audi RS4.
