As we said before it’s no longer the Lauretta! Skoda once again changed the name of its midsize saloon now christened as ‘Rapid’, following the negative response the company received after AutoCarIndia monikered. And that to after the tooling for the badge was done.
Now we have with us the clearest, uncamouflaged images yet, of the Skoda Rapid images. These images are courtesy NDTV Car’nBike’s anchor, Siddharth Vinayak Patankar, and many thanks to him. As we told earlier one can makeout Rapid borrows design cues from the Skoda Fabia and its German cousin, the VW Vento.
Skoda Rapid will share engines with the Vento, which means it will come with a 1.6-litre, 105bhp petrol and a 1.6-litre 105bhp diesel, mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
Keeping the positioning of the two brands in mind, we expect the Rapid to be priced slightly below the VW Vento in a price range of Rs 7-9 lakh. The Rapid is expected to be launched this month, with deliveries starting from December 2011.
