SPIED: Skoda Karoq to be unveiled in 2020 Auto Expo

It’s no secret that the Volkswagen Group are planning a slew of affordable SUV’s which will hit the market in the next couple of years. There will be as many as four unveils taking place by the group during the upcoming 2020 Auto Expo. One of them will be Skoda’s mid-size SUV, christened the Karoq.

Recently, a test mule of the Karoq was spied on Indian roads. These images reveal the exterior of the Karoq, similar to the one Skoda will be selling internationally. The Karoq will be coming to India by means of a CBU route.

It will be placed between the Kamiq compact SUV and the Kodiaq premium SUV. While the latter is already on sale, the former is among one of the most anticipated launches taking place in recent times. The Kamiq will be based on the Skoda Vision IN concept, set for a global unveil during the Expo.

Coming back to the Karoq, Skoda will be giving it a host of features such as an all-digital cluster, LED headlamps and tail-lamps, powered front seats and a sunroof. Safety is also expected to be up there with the best, as seen in all models from Skoda. Engine-wise, there will be no diesel motors on offer for the Karoq.

It may be due to diesels having less demand compared to petrol engines, with most automakers opting to not upgrade their diesels to BS-VI standards. Then, the Karoq will feature a 1.5 litre TSI petrol engine. This engine makes 150 BHP of power along with 250 Nm of torque.

On the pricing front, the Kodiaq is expected to come at a price range of Rs.17-20 lakh. Launch is expected to take place in April 2020, with the Karoq marking Skoda’s entry into the mid-size SUV segment. After its launch, it will be taking on the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V and the Mahindra XUV500 in its segment.
