Looks like it so happens to be Maruti spyshot day today! This latest set of spyshots by Motor Octane and Raid101 reveal some new things about the upcoming Maruti YRA premium hatchback that we haven’t seen before. First & foremost is the size larger than the Swift with an aim of taking the fight towards the Hyundai Elite i20.
The YRA gets blackened A-pillar and C-pillar which is good to improve the sporty appeal.
The YRA gets completely new styling all around, with the front getting a unique U-shaped grille unlike any other Maruti we’ve ever seen. The sweptback headlamps resemblance to the ones on the Swift, while the mildly aggressive front bumper packs a couple of vertically placed DRL strips. The rest of the car looks very grown-up and like the Ciaz it looks European.
The side profile gives the impression of big hatchback as the OVRMs are placed in its front door and have integrated turn-indicators. There is a wiper for the rear windscreen and the rear bumper houses the number plate and reflectors at the extreme ends. Higher variants are likely to get alloy wheels, daytime running lights, a chrome-lined grille and chrome door handles.
The YRA AT will not be offered in the top-end trim, says this report.
These spy shots also show us the interior of the Maruti YRA of two variants including a mid-level and top-end model. While the mid-variant features automatic transmission, the top-spec model is fitted with a manual gearbox. The YRA premium hatchback gets an all-black dashboard with silver accents on the centre console, AC vents and center tunnel. According to the website, both variants will get multi-function steering wheels.
Integrated 2-DIN music system seen on the top-end YRA model.
The mid ‘V’ AT variant is equipped with a several features including automatic climate control, power windows and multi-functional steering wheels. This variant misses out on music system. While the top-end ‘Z’ MT gets the integrated 2-DIN music system, keyless entry with push start/stop button, electrically adjustable and folding ORVMs, cruise control, dual airbags, ABS with EBD and others.
The Maruti YRA is a size larger than the Swift.
The YRA is reported to debut Suzuki’s new 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor while the 1.3-litre DDiS is likely to be the diesel engine of choice. To be positioned above the Swift hatchback, the Suzuki YRA premium hatchback will rival against the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo and upcoming Honda Jazz. The company could standardize some safety features on ‘YRA’ looking at the recent Global NCAP crash test criticism of Swift!
About the launch, the YRA is set to launch at some major expo next-year while Indian launch is expected sometime next-year or early-2016.
