SPIED: Ford Ranger seen in India – debut soon?

A Ford Ranger test mule has been spotted in India, creating speculations that Ford may be planning to launch the Indian pickup truck.

The Ford Ranger shares its backbones with the Endeavour SUV. It is a four-door vehicle with a rear loading bay. The images show a black grille at the front of the test mule, smoked headlamps and riding on black wheels.

Ford Ranger will share its platform with the Endeavour, and is expected to be powered by the same 2.0L EcoBlue diesel engine as well.

According to the media article, Ford could sell the Ranger a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine. This model produces 165 BHP and 420 Nm, and can be paired with an automatic 10-speed transmission and a four-wheel drive system. Unlike the Endeavour, the Ranger may also receive other equipment such as locking differentials, active transfer case, and features such as driving modes, hill-climb assist, hill descent control, stability control, and avoidance of rollovers.

Whether Ford is still considering the Ranger for India, it would not come as a surprise as there is promise in the segment of lifestyle vehicles as shown by vehicles such as the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross and the soon to be unveiled Mahindra Thar. Toyota is also said to have been testing India’s Hilux pick-up truck.
