2012 Honda Civic on the cards, diesel engine also expected

Honda Siel Cars India Ltd. first introduced the Civic in India in 2006, the sporty looks and cutting edge engine of the Honda Civic captured a lot of attention in the Indian market. Eventually Honda had to compromise in sales due to the lack of a diesel engine coupled with the rising fuel prices in India.

Now the next generation is out in some countries and it’s headed for an India launch in mid-2013. The design is more revolutionary (unlike the earlier car). Infact, the lines have been toned down which should make the saloon appeal to a wider customer base. However, the interior are just as radical as before and feature a dual level split instrument console.

The new Civic should feature an updated version of the 1.8-litre, SOHC i-4 petrol engine with improved refinement, emissions, economy and performance, Peak power will be around 140bhp. The icing on the cake is the 2.2-liter i-DTEC diesel which is capable of 50 PS and 350 Nm of torque.

A diesel engine is also on the cards, but is unlikely to make it to India before late-2013. Having tasted the blood with its aggressive pricing for the Brio and Jazz, expect a surprise sticker price for this model too.
