Ever since the launch of Mercedes B-Class Sports Tourer, Many blogs and forums has reported that Mercedes-Benz has started testing the 2013 A-Class in India. But at the moment we didn’t have any spy pictures to have it confirmed. Now a month after the report, the AutoCarIndia reader Ketan has managed to snap firstever spy pictures of this test-car in India, but exact location is unknown.
The 2013 A-Class (codename: W176) is already launched in some markets around the world. In India, according to some trusted sources the company had planned the A Class’s launch around July-2013. Although the car is proven a success in the existing markets, the test-car is brought here in India to make some adjustments to the chassis and the powertrain to meet Indian condition norms.
As the luxury car segment grew in India, Merc’s other rivals like Audi & BMW entered and slowly overtook the leader. In 2009 Mercedes-Benz lost its top position to BMW and in 2011 Audi became second & pushing Mercedes-Benz to the third position. Now after losing the top position in the Indian car market, Mercedes is striving hard to regain its position. With the 2013 A-Class, Mercedes is ready to submit hell to competitors like the upcoming Audi A3 and the BMW 1 Series.
According to AutoCarIndia, the test-car seems to carry AMG body kit that features special side-skirts and aerodynamic add-ons to the bumpers. The test-car is also seen with a panoramic sun-roof. They reveal that there is possibility of Mercedes doing a special AMG edition of the A-Class for India just like the recently launched C-Class AMG with special body kit, alloy wheels and a panoramic sunroof.
In India, the 2013 A-Class is expected to be powered by a 1.8-litre turbo-diesel motor that is good for 134bhp and is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. We expect the car to be priced under Rs. 20 lakh in our market.
