Mercedes Benz India has already confirmed that the new A-Class will be launched in India by mid-2013. It has already created a success in the European car market with over 90,000 bookings, far surpassing the 2013 best seller Volkswagen Golf, which received 40,000 bookings since its launch ahead of the 2012 Paris Motor Show.
The car has already spotted many a time in Pune but with heavy camouflage, now for the first-time the car has been spotted without any camouflage in Pune itself. This indicates that a launch of this car could happen very soon in India. It comes with impressive levels of equipment and safety in-line with Mercedes Benz’s strategy of delivering a lower priced, entry level car model under its ‘affordable luxury’ strategy.
The A-Class is aimed at younger and first time Mercedes Benz buyers, who need a lower entry point. The A-Class will be offered with both turbo petrol and a turbo diesel engine option. Like the B-Class, expect the A-Class to be powered by a 122 Bhp-200 Nm 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine and a 1.8-litre, 110 Bhp-250 Nm turbo diesel engine. Both of these engines are expected to be mated to 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmissions.
The 2013 A-Class is expected to carry a price tag in the range of Rs. 18-20 lakh, making it the cheapest car from Mercedes line-up in India. We expected to be launched around July-2013.
