Now a folk at Motor Vikatan has spotted the test-mule of new Chevy Beat wearing a new face in Salem, Tamil Nadu. This bit of automotive nip-tuck comes just in time for the Beat’s mid-cycle freshening. While its main rivals Ford Figo and Maruti Ritz, are rigorously seen testing with new front-fascia as launch nears. So the Beat refresh is well timed for the Indian car market.
GM has already launched the 2013 Chevrolet Spark (Beat for Indian readers) in US market. From the spy pics, it is evident the model spotted here is different from the U.S variant. Therefore expect some minor changes behind the camouflage of the new Beat like a larger grille that stretches further into the front bumper and restyled fog-lamp housing. On the inside, the youthful appeal of the car culminates in a motorcycle style instrumentation console, which is quite unlike anything seen on Indian cars.
The spotted person also revealed saying that the new Chevrolet Beat test mule had some Japanese engineers on-board, when he enquired them about the car, they said the new Beat features a some changes in the engine. However, it is unclear that spotted variant is the petrol or diesel. We doubt it will just offer competitive fuel economy than the model it replaces.
Currently, the Beat engine line-up in India includes 1.2-litre petrol engine, 1.2-litre petrol-CNG dual fuel variant and a 1.0-litre diesel engined model. However, the diesel engined model is very specific to the Indian car market, with GM’s engineers downsizing the 1.3 MultiJet turbo diesel engine that General Motors jointly developed with Italian automaker Fiat.
In U.S 2013 Chevrolet Spark (Beat ) is equipped with color touch screen radio, Chevrolet MyLink infotainment connectivity with Pandora and Stitcher internet radio, exterior enhancements such as chrome accents and heated leatherette seats. However, don’t expect these features on Indian version of upcoming Chevy Beat.
