Maruti’s latest baby is not a regular Suzuki model sold in other markets but one that has been designed and engineered in India for the Indian market. Call it a van or a car, it is the latest launch from India’s most loved automaker, its upcoming MPV popularly known as R3 (codenamed YL8).

Maruti Suzuki R3 spotted by Rajat Uppal and posted the pictures on Car & Bike Show by NDTV on Facebook page. Rajat Uppal spotted this MPV in old Delhi Gurgaon national highway. The upcoming Maruti Suzuki MPV (Multi-purpose vehicle) will have some of the design elements of the R3 concept and will likely be built on the SX4 sedan platform.

Looking at the picture it reveals that the R3 isn’t as long as the Innova. The person who clicked the photo himself described it as a mini vehicle rather than a full blown MPV. The third row seems just about adequate for children and a far cry from the segment leader, the Toyota Innova. Based on the Ritz platform, the Maruti R3 will feature three rows of seats and will be offered as a 7-seater. But Maruti Suzuki will undercut the pricing of the Innova by a significant margin.

The interiors will be quite similar to what we will be seeing on the upcoming new Swift, while the exteriors will borrow heavily from the current crop of Maruti cars, including the Ritz and Swift. The R3 will be available in four variant – VXi, VDi, ZXi and ZDi when it goes on sale later this year.
