Skoda India has confirmed the launch of the Fabia Scout. The Skoda Fabia Scout is an off-road version of the current Skoda Fabia hatcback. The company is also planning more variant of the Fabia hatchback which will help the company to cater to a larger segment of buyers which have different preferences.

Skoda has been testing the Fabia Scout in India and the car has been caught many times on the Indian roads. It will come fitted with specifically designed parts and fittings which Skoda has designed specifically for this model. Dual tone bumpers, roof railings, bodyside cladding with 4×4 inspired styling etc…

The Skoda Fabia Scout is said to be powered by a 1.6 MPFI and 1.6 CRDI diesel engine. But sources tell us that car is being strapped with a new 1.5 diesel engine. The Fabia Scout is based on the Fabia platform and will have larger boot storage when compared to the Fabia hatchback.

But not everything with the Scout is hunky-dory. Since it is only a front wheel drive vehicle, it has only limited off-roading capability and might find it difficult to cross anything more than just a dirt road. The primary reason for this is certainly the absence of four-wheel drive system and lockable diffs. It is still not known why the company gave the car only a limited off-roading capability and didn’t go the whole hog.

The Scout could be a good option to buyers who want SUV look alike hatchback and want to wander out of the city during the weekends. It is expected the price range of between the Rs 7 to 9 Lakh bracket. The question arise will Skoda showcase the Skoda Fabia Scout, at the upcoming Delhi Auto Expo 2012.
