We brought to you earlier the leaked images of 2012 Toyota Fortuner, later we got our hands on an image showing a portion of the tailgate and that matches with the new image that has leaked onto the interweb. Launched two years ago, the Fortuner has been in the international markets for a little longer than that and has been a runaway success in India.
Toyota first introduced the Fortuner in Thailand in 2005. The SUV got a slight facelift in 2008 and that is the same model on sale in India. The Toyota Fortuner might be commanding a solid waiting period in India, but back in other Asian countries it doesn’t. The Japanese manufacturer however is now planning to give it a facelift, some images have leaked onto the internet ahead of the 2012 Toyota Fortuner’s official unveiling.
The new Toyota Fortuner is not much new only slight cosmetic changes with no major feature addition. It gets a fresh face which resembles closely the elder brothers Prado and Landcruiser. The Fortuner now gets a large chrome grille, new front and rear bumpers, larger headlamps and redesigned taillights.
The current Fortuner is powered by a 3.0-litre common rail diesel motor that churns out a respectable 169bhp. This is the same motor that does duty in the larger Land Cruiser Prado as well, although the Prado gets more torque, and the Fortuner may be given this step up as well as an automatic version could be on the cards too, along with imporved interiors.
Expect the updated Fortuner to reach our shores by mid-2012.
