Toyota Corolla is indeed of the most popular luxury cars, not just in India but globally. The car has topped the best seller charts and has maintained at the top position for a long time. It’s this reputation that Toyota keeps enhancing this car, and now Toyota will roll out the 11th edition of the Corolla since its first model launched in 1966.
The Corolla has always been targeted at the luxury car market and had the best in class features to meet the buyer needs in that segment. But there is a shift in the pattern, and luxury car buyers have now expecting a sporty look from even from their luxury cars, most of them being young buyers. Toyota has considered this change in trend and has put the best of their efforts to tailor the Corolla to the likes of the modern young buyers.
Toyota has completely revamped the exterior of the car to give it a sporty look, the integration of the headlamps, grill and the bumper give the car a sharp look. The sharp body lines and the tail lamps extended to the boot lid carry the sportiness around the car. Also a noticeable change is the elongated wheelbase which makes this one 100mm longer than the earlier edition, 75mm of which is added to the rear leg room.
The interior have also gone through a lot of changes, the 2014 Toyota will get a dual tone color combination, and will also have different color accents to match the color theme. The instrument cluster is divided in three sections with a chrome finish. The dashboard is also revamped, and is equipped with a new touch screen panel, that doubles as a screen for the parking assistance, engine start/stop button and the climate control button are arranged in a way to give a spacious feeling.
Although not many changes expect for minor tweaks have been made to the engine, which means the new Corolla will powered by the same, 1.8-litre petrol and the 1.4-litre diesel engine. The transmission will also be the same as existing 6-speed manual and the Super CVT-i with 7-speed sequential shiftmatic transmission.
The new Corolla is expected to be launched in the first half of 2014, and can be priced above the existing models, but keeping in the price band of other manufacturers in the same segment.
