Once upon the time Ford used to be the king in the premium SUV territory with its only offering Ford Endeavour. At present time changed and more companies stepped into the segment. The SUV is likely to send the shivers down the spine of its closest rival upcoming new Toyota Fortuner. One glance at the 2012 Ford Endeavour will make you wonder if it is the same SUV we are looking at.
Now Ford Thailand has taken the wraps off the new Ranger pick-up that will form the basis of the all-new Endeavour SUV headed to India in end-2012. The design confirms with Ford’s global design language, so the final SUV version will look a whole lot more modern than the current dated Indian model.
On the inside, Ford has carried over the same feeling of might and masculinity. Ford has especially described that the company wanted to achieve G-Shock watch type ruggedness in the interiors. The insides look tough enough to withstand a sledgehammer, the design of the protruding central console is chamfered with all sorts of protective ridges, and there is a strong simplicity to the steering wheel and instrument panel.
The size of the SUV too looks outgrown with longer chassis endowing more interior space especially in the middle. The passengers sitting in the third row are for sure to feel the improved legroom space. The dashboard has undergone a good measure of improvement with a cabin large enough to dump many more essentials into it. The centre console and the instrument panel are literally fraught with all the latest gizmos to suit the recent crop of generation.
If one flays out the exteriors skin, the real makeover is under the skin as well. There’s a new, stiffer ladder chassis, plenty of electronic driver aids and there are two new engines too. A smaller-capacity 148bhp 2.2 diesel will replace the 2.5 currently available, and for those hooked on torque there is a new 3.2-litre inline five-cylinder that puts out 198bhp and 48kgm of twist! All in all, a really exciting new SUV from Ford; one that has the potential to shake things up.
