Piaggio Vespa RED launched in India at Rs. 87,009, fight against AIDS

Piaggio Group has launched a special edition of the Vespa scooter, named the Vespa Red in the country at a price of Rs. 87,000 (ex-showroom Maharashtra). Bookings have already commenced and deliveries will begin by next-month.

Bollywood celebrity, Farhan Akhtar presented and owned the first Vespa RED in Mumbai.

Compared to the standard version, the Vespa Red adds on all-red bodywork including red plastic panels, seat and alloy wheels painted in the same shade of red and Vespa Red chrome emblems. The scooter has been launched in association with the RED organization, which works in the field of HIV / AIDS research and awareness.

According to Piaggio, for every Vespa Red sold, the company will donate US$ 50 (approximately Rs. 3,277) to the Global Fund, which is fighting to eliminate AIDS in India. The Italian two-wheeler manufacturer claims each scooter sold can help provide more than 165 days of HIV medication; which can help save a mother’s life and prevent her from passing the virus to her unborn baby.

Vespa RED edition features red colour bodywork, alloy wheels and seat.

Carrying a 125cc single-cyinder air-cooled engine, the RED-theme scooter develops 10.06 PS at 7500rpm and 10.6 Nm at 6000rpm. It is paired to a CVT gearbox. At the moment, the Vespa Red will solely available with a 125cc engine. However, depending on customer demand, the company might think about launching a 150cc variant in the future.
