Official – Mahindra XUV500 launch on 28 September

Recently Mahindra & Mahindra revealed the name of their highly anticipated World SUV as the XUV500 (pronounced ‘ex-you-vee-five-double-oh’) .The new SUV will hit the showrooms on the 28th of September.  As per the sources, The SUV manufacturer is said to have already directed its vendors to prepare for the launch of their new flagship vehicle.

XUV500 has been special to Mahindra because this will be M&M’s first front-wheel-drive vehicle and there will be a four-wheel-drive version too. The SUV uses monocoque car-like construction and a new transaxle developed entirely from scratch for the XUV500. There’s also an all-new, cable-operated gearbox with five- and six-speed options developed with help from Ricardo. A transversely located 2.2-liter mHawk engine developing 140 Bhp and an estimated 32.6kgm of torque will power the new SUV. There will also be a lot of goodies like traction control, ESP, and hill descent control as well.

The XUV500 is also expected to offer a tilt and telescopically adjustable steering wheel, automatic headlamps, and daytime running LED lights as some of its unique features. The car will be available in both 4×2 and 4×4 versions. Expect a price point close to the Tata Aria. Safety features such as ABS with BA and EBD, along with multiple airbags with also be offered.

Expect the pricing to be in the region of the Tata Aria.
