BA readers know that the upgraded Punto and Linea models will be launched in New Delhi on the 3rd of January 2012. Now the company officially confirmed the launch, before the Auto Expo. The makeover of the two average selling Fiat cars might be restricted to skin deep for this time. They are expected to house the usual 1.3 L diesel engine at the moment.
As expected, the exteriors are bound to undergo some changes which can be easily brought in with a redesigned bumper and headlamp designs. The interiors might be spruced up a little bit to offer more comfort to the passengers on the ride. However, the looks of Fiat Linea sedan and the Fiat Punto have never been the reason for their mediocre success. Moreover, there has been another reason for the lukewarm success of both the cars. Tata Motors and Fiat India are tied-up to show case both their respective car models at the Tata’s sales and service outlets. This is another thing that Fiat is expected to change. Fiat India sometime back, asserted that it will launch stand alone outlest in the country to showcase its cars.
Fiat will have its first ever dealership opened at New Delhi with the 2012 Fiat Linea and new Fiat Punto extending the charm of the brand to new dealerships. The Fiat car sales have never been great since the beginning when Fiat started showcasing its car models along with Tata cars at the latters’ sales outlets. Therefore, the year 2012 is likely to bring a plethora of changes for the Italian car manufacturer in India. One of those is the new deal with Maruti Suzuki India on the supply of Fiat’s diesel powertrains. Fiat Motors will supply as many as 1 lakh diesel engines to Maruti India per annum.
