Maruti Suzuki are keen to introduce the next iteration of their strong selling hatchback, the Alto, for the Indian market. As per reports, the next-generation Alto may be ready by the end of 2019. It will be massively different from the current model and may carry an interesting design theme.
This is to keep in touch with far superior rivals, which are popular mainly due to their design. The next generation Alto will be complying with the upcoming BS-VI emission norms. It will carry some additional features and updates both inside and out.
Engine-wise, the new Alto will come powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, petrol engine. This engine does produce 67 BHP of power and 90 Nm of torque. There will also be an 800cc, three-cylinder, petrol engine giving 47 BHP of power and 69 Nm of torque.
Prices are expectedly going to be the same as the current model on sale. The next generation Alto will rival the Renault Kwid, Datsun Redi-Go and the Hyundai Santro. The current Alto has been here for a long time now and Maruti Suzuki reckons this is the right time to roll out an update for the hatchback.
