The latest TVS scooter in our market, the TVS Jupiter, has been very well received. Launched in September-2013, the Jupiter is successful because it offers more features and value than the other scooters in the segment. Things like the pass switch – the first in the Indian scooter segment, make this scooter a complete value for money product.
Last-month, the company has introduced two new colours to mark the first anniversary of the Jupiter. Introduction of the two new colours namely Matte Beige and Sparkling Silver, takes its total colour options to six. With the new colours, the Jupiter looks more premium and certainly more stylish, even without any changes to the styling or mechanicals.
The Jupiter features a telescopic suspension in the front and gas filled suspension at the rear, low fuel indicator and LED tail light. The patented E-Z centre stand also claims to be very easy to use. The handling has also been worked on, and TVS claims that it has the least turning radius in the segment. At 1910mm it will help in better manoeuvrability as well as U-turns. Jupiter also comes with an under seat storage of 17 litres with a mobile charging point.
Under the skin, the Jupiter shares its platform with the Wego. Power too comes from the same tried and tested 110cc engine which does duty on the Wego, which generates maximum power of 8 Bhp @ 7500 rpm with maximum torque of 8 Nm @ 5500 rpm and has a V-matic transmission. One can conveniently choose from ECO mode and POWER mode which as the name suggests, helps in extracting maximum efficiency and performance respectively.
TVS does not offer a front disc brake, even as option. TVS claims an ARAI certified mileage of 62 kmpl on the Jupiter. And just like the recently launched Mahindra Gusto, the Jupiter too comes equipped with comparatively larger 12-inch wheels. Apart from the two new shades, the Jupiter is available in 4 more colours on the palette (Titanium Grey, Mercury White, Midnight Black and Volcano Red), with prices starting at Rs. 44,250/- (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Commenting on the development, K N Radhakrishnan, President and CEO, TVS Motor Company said –
“This is yet another example of our deeper customer understanding and our commitment to deliver what customers want. Today, we have the widest and most comprehensive range of scooters straddling all segments of the scooter market with Jupiter targeting the male single user segment, Wego targeting the dual user segment and Scooty Zest, Pep+ and Streak making up for the women single user segment.”
