Maruti Suzuki had planned to launch the next-generation Maruti Swift Dzire in 2018-19 financial year but has preponed its plans and instead plans to launch earlier than expected in 2017-18, probably alongside the Swift hatchback itself.
Although the details of car is scarce for now, the next-generation Swift Dzire is expected to be based on Suzuki’s new lightweight compact car platform underpinning the recently launched Baleno and will shed weight by 50-80 kg on the Swift and Dzire models. It also promises improved structural rigidity resulting in higher levels of crash safety for occupants. Alongside you’ll see more safety features on the new models besides the host of new features.
However it is rumoured that the new in-house developed diesel engine from Suzuki with SHVS mild hybrid technology will be on-board, also expect a turbocharged petrol engine on offer. The car maker is also working on introducing a petrol variant of the DZire Tour with retrofitted CNG to meet the Supreme Court’s deadline of March 31, 2016 for all Delhi commercial vehicles to be converted into CNG. Currently the DZire Tour is on-sale only in diesel version in the market.
