Volkswagen India is all-set to launch the facelifted Vento tomorrow, in time for the festive season. Just before the official launch, the Vento facelift is spotted at a dealership in unknown location. The car will feature minimal update to the exterior as well as the interior. The major update seen is the new India specific 1.5-litre diesel engine that made entry on the Polo hatchback earlier this year, and will be mated to a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox, alongside a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Volkswagen Vento facelift gets new color, alloy wheels and headlights
On the exterior, the Vento facelift gets a new double-barrel headlight clusters and a new body color (which is called Toffee Brown on the Jetta). Sadly, the front grille and the bumper have been left untouched. The 5-spoke alloy wheel is new and looks classy. Coming to the interior, there is a new flat-bottomed steering wheel, redesigned instrument cluster and silver inserts for the center console.
Under the hood, the Vento will omit its 1.6-litre TDI engine for the new 1.5-litre TDI seen on the Polo. This engine is likely to produce 105 PS (104 bhp) at 4,400 rpm and 250 Nm of torque between 1,500-2,500 rpm. The 5-speed manual will be a standard fitment, and the 6-speed DSG will come on the top-end variant. Apart from the new trim, the rest of the variant lineup for Vento remains the same – a 1.6-litre, 5-speed manual, MPI petrol engine and the enthusiasts’ favorite 1.2-litre TSI motor mated to the 7-speed DSG.
The interior of the Vento facelift is similar to that of the new Polo
The DSG transmission makes the new Volkswagen Vento the second diesel sedan in its segment, after Hyundai Verna to offer a diesel engine mated to an automatic transmission. The bookings for the Vento facelift have already commenced, at the Volkswagen dealerships across the country. However, looking at its rivals Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Ford Fiesta, Fiat Linea, Nissan Sunny, Renault Scala and yet-to-launch & already-popular Maruti Ciaz, Volkswagen has been facing tough time selling Vento. On the other-hand, its cousin Skoda Rapid facelift with a DSG auto gearbox will be launched a day after on 25th September 2014.
