The German car manufacturer, Audi has started working on the next-generation Q7 SUV. Now according to the reports in AutoCarUK, the major change in the next-gen Q7 will be reduction in weight of the big SUV. The folks at MotorAuthority has also managed to snap the upcoming Q7 doing the trail-run in the current-gen Q7′s body shell in unknown location.

Audi Q7 is the flagship SUV from Audi line-up. The upcoming next-gen will be 350 Kg lighter than the current model. It will be build on the new Modular Longitudinal Matrix (MLM) Platform. This platform is also used in upcoming models of the Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Continental and forthcoming SUVs from the Volkswagen Group.

The chassis will contain structural members made up of steel, aluminium and carbon fiber which makes reduces the weight. Further weight reduction is expected to be noticed in the powertrain. The platform will be manufactured using other material and bonding techniques. All these weight savings would translate into more agility and efficiency for the Audi flagship.

The next-generation Audi Q7 is expected to be revealed late next year and will be on-sale by early-2014. A plug-in hybrid model is also due for 2014, as confirmed recently by Audi CEO Rupert Stadler.
