Next-gen Maruti Suzuki Alto spotted for the first time

The Maruti Suzuki Alto has turned out to be quite a success for the automaker during its life span in India till now. Recently, the Alto crossed the 5 million milestone in terms of units sold here, a feat which it has achieved in 20 years. As for now, there is quite some news of the next generation of the car on the horizon.

Maruti Suzuki are currently constructing the next generation of their strong selling hatchback, the Alto. The new Maruti Suzuki Alto is slated for an India launch next year, although we are yet to receive the details regarding the time of its introduction here. Recently, a test mule of the new Alto was spied during its initial phases of testing.

The test mule more or less gave us an idea of how the car will be looking like by the time it gets launched. This is the first time that the next generation of the Maruti Suzuki Alto has been spotted on our roads. It is seen wrapped in full camouflage and also has striking similarities to the model currently on sale.

The new Maruti Suzuki Alto has a similar roofline and looks pretty much the same in terms of design and proportions as compared to the outgoing model. However, there will be a lot of changes on the other areas of the car, most notably the platform it uses. The next generation Alto will come underpinned by Maruti Suzuki’s Heartect-K platform, which is present on almost all of its models here.

The interiors will also be given a major redesign and we can expect the car to come with a few much needed features. These include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, albeit on the top-spec variants of the car. Engine-wise, the new Maruti Suzuki Alto will source the same 796cc, three-cylinder petrol motor as seen on the current model.

This motor can produce 48 BHP of power and 69 Nm of torque. There is also a possibility of the new Alto featuring a new 1.0 litre petrol engine alongside the smaller capacity motor. The car could arrive with options of both a manual and an AMT transmission.

Maruti Suzuki are expected to price the next generation Alto around the Rs. 3-5 lakh mark, with its top-spec variants further commanding a premium. When launched, the new Maruti Suzuki Alto will be taking on the Renault Kwid, Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago, Datsun Redi-Go and the Maruti Suzuki duo of Wagon-R and S-Presso. With the next generation Alto, Maruti Suzuki will be hoping to continue their winning run in the market with the hatchback being one of the major contributors to the title.
