Maruti Suzuki are readying the next iteration of their strong-seller, the Wagon-R for the Indian market. According to reports, the next-generation Wagon-R is set to arrive during the first half of 2019. Recently, the new Wagon-R was seen undergoing testing in production form.
These images show the tall-boy design and the boxy silhouette which the Wagon-R is popular for. There is a more attractive looking design theme, with some curvy lines and a floating roof. Maruti Suzuki will offer the Wagon-R in a much more premium avatar compared to the one on-sale now.
The Wagon-R will be offered with features like a touchscreen infotainment system power steering, alloy wheels, reverse parking sensors and so on. As far as safety is concerned, the next-gen Wagon-R will get dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts and a high speed alarm system. Though, it is not sure whether most of these features will be offered as standard or not.
Engine-wise, the next generation Wagon-R will employ the same 1.0-litre petrol motor seen on the current model. However, it will feature some changes to keep in touch with the BS-VI emission norms. The Wagon-R will be offered with a 5-speed manual transmission, with an automatic version due for arrival later in its life cycle.
Prices for the new Wagon-R are expected to start from Rs. 4 lakh and be within the Rs. 7 lakh mark. When launched, the next generation Wagon-R will rival the likes of the Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago and the Renault Kwid. We can expect a good overall product from Maruti Suzuki, which is likely to be appreciated by the Indian masses.
