New Maruti Suzuki WagonR starts testing in India, launch unknown

Maruti Suzuki is planning to upgrade their big seller the WagonR in the country. A facelifted version was rumoured to be launched by this-year, but now it seems to be true. The new Maruti Suzuki WagonR has been spotted testing in Delhi.

Next-gen Maruti Suzuki WagonR based on a lightweight HEARTECT platform.

By the spy images, we can see the car has a 4-slat chrome at the front with wrap around headlamps. At the rear, we can see the number plate at the rear bumper, reminiscent of the previous versions. The side retains the same tall-boy shape with the minimal changes.

Pictures of the interior have not yet come out, but we can expect a touch-screen infotainment systems and steering mounted controls. Engine wise, the new WagonR will be powered by 998cc petrol engine that produces 67 BHP of power and 90 Nm of torque. It will come made it to a 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic gearboxes.

The test car snapped here is a CBU unit which is powered by a diesel engine.

When launched, the WagonR will use Suzuki HEARTECT platform, see in another Maruti cars like Baleno, Swift Dzire and Swift. Rivals include the Renault Kwid, Tata Tiago and the yet to be launched new Hyundai Santro. Launch is expected to take place at the end of 2018 and it is likely to come at an aggressive price.
