Nissan reportedly working on a new compact sedan for India

Nissan are reportedly developing a sub-4 metre compact sedan for the Indian market. As per reports, the vehicle will be ready soon and will go on sale by the end of 2021 or early 2022. It will also be Nissan’s first attempt at the compact sedan space, which at present is a very crowded one here.

Based on the CMF-A+ platform, Nissan has announced new B-Segment compact sedan launch for India.

The development of the vehicle comes after the automaker’s attempt to revive their India operations. Nissan are all set to introduce the Magnite compact SUV here soon, possibly by January 2021. Thus, the introduction of the sub-4 metre sedan shortly afterwards will truly signal the brand’s commitment to India.

It is likely that the vehicle will be based on the cost-effective CMF-A+ platform, which will also be used in the Magnite. Renault are also rumoured to be developing a compact sedan, which will launch later. There is a chance that it will be sharing majority of its components with Nissan’s compact sedan.

Nissan compact sedan is expected to hit the showrooms by the end of 2021 or early 2022.

Engine-wise, the sub-4 metre sedan would feature the upcoming 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor. This is recently under development and may debut alongside the Magnite next-year. The specifications and details regarding the engine will probably be disclosed during its launch.

Nissan will offer the possibility of AMT and CVT transmissions on the vehicle to go with the manual one. When launched, the sub-4 metre sedan will rival the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata Tigor, Ford Aspire and the Hyundai Aura in its segment. Nissan will have a lot of hopes on its launch and we can only hope that the vehicle will fulfill them by bringing some much needed sales for the automaker here.
