Mahindra’s most ambitious project its new global SUV, codenamed the W201 World SUV might launch on 26th of September, 2011. As per the sources, The SUV manufacturer is said to have already directed its vendors to prepare for the launch of their new flagship vehicle.
W201 World SUV has been special to Mahindra because this will be M&M’s first front-wheel-drive vehicle and there will be a four-wheel-drive version too. The SUV uses monocoque car-like construction and a new transaxle developed entirely from scratch for the W201. There’s also an all-new, cable-operated gearbox with five- and six-speed options developed with help from Ricardo. A transversely located 2.2-liter mHawk engine developing 140 Bhp and an estimated 32.6kgm of torque will power the new SUV. There will also be a lot of goodies like traction control, ESP, and hill descent control as well.
The W201 will be positioned above the Scorpio and hence we expect it to retail at around Rs. 13 for the base 2WD version. A 4-wheel drive version will join in later but Mahindra expects majority of the sales to come from the 2-wheel drive version. The run up to the Mahindra W201 World SUV’s launch begins!
