Our good friend at Motorbeam has test droven the all-new Maruti Alto 800, even before the official launch and shared the details of the car. The country’s best-selling car is about to get major facelift, and this is the first model change after 11 long years. A brand new version of the Maruti Alto is scheduled to be launched on October 16th, well in time for the festive season. Surprisingly, the LXi variant now gets a driverside airbag as the option but the only thing that remains is to see how Maruti will price this baby.
The new Alto 800 gets totally revamped exterior with all-new styling. Frankly speaking the new Alto 800, looks very much similar to the upcoming Ford Figo at the front-end and at the rear similar to the A-star with Mickey Mouse like rear. The side profile is again similar to the A-star. Overall, the Alto 800 looks cramped and no match for the well styled fluidic Hyundai Eon. However, there are many plus points for the car which might help the Alto 800 to be the successor of the Alto/800 as said below.
The biggest plus point for the Alto 800 will be the trust of middle-class car buyers towards the Maruti brand. Also the availability of spare parts, as it shares many parts with the current-Alto (F8D) the parts will be available in local and authorized dealers. Besides this, the low-cost maintenance and wide service network enhance the trust of the customer. Hence, the middle-class buyer will not have second thought before buying the new Alto 800.
Under the hood, the Alto 800 has a new plastic intake system (the older one was aluminium), a new lighter crankshaft, a new cylinder head, new piston rings and a new gearbox. All this combined boosts the output to 48PS and 69Nm which is an 11 per cent increase from the previous model. Maruti is also claiming a fuel economy of 22.74 kmpl (ARAI certified). The source also suggests that engine feels much smoother and more linear than before. And the car too feels much quicker than the older one. But we can only say for sure once we test it.
If Maruti is able to boost sales of the Alto with the 800cc replacement, it can claim to have offered three successful products over the last 12 months – the new Swift, the new Dzire(sub-4metre) and the new Alto.
