News has come that Skoda Auto India have delayed the launch of the next generation Octavia here. This has been confirmed by Zac Hollis, Director of Sales and Marketing for Skoda in India. Mr.Hollis also tweeted that the fourth generation Skoda Octavia will now be launching during the second quarter of next year instead of the first.
This is the second time that Skoda have postponed the introduction of the new Octavia here. The premium sedan was initially scheduled to hit showrooms this year. In fact, Skoda have also discontinued the third generation of the Octavia in order to make space for its latest iteration.
The fourth-generation of the Skoda Octavia was spotted numerous times in its testing phase, leading to talks of the car coming here soon. During the middle of the year, Skoda had confirmed the news of the new Octavia arriving in showrooms by early 2021 onwards before recently pushing its launch further. The new Octavia receives quite a few impressive design elements such as a sleek butterfly honeycomb grille along with ‘C-Shaped’ tail-lamps.
Going with the flow, Skoda will be offering the new Octavia with only a petrol motor. This comes as a bit of a surprise given that the automaker had earned a reputation of making great diesel powered cars over the years, with those outselling their petrol counterparts. Anyways, Skoda will be selling the car with a 1.5 litre TSI petrol motor, which is capable of giving a power output of 150 BHP.
Other than that, the automaker could also provide a more powerful 2.0 litre TSI motor, expected to make around 190 BHP of power. At the moment, the power output on the motor remains to be class-leading and it is to be seen how the automaker will be backing it up. Skoda will be giving both the engines a dual-clutch automatic, with the manual not quite expected to be in their plans.
When launched, the next generation Skoda Octavia could be coming here at a price of Rs.20 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It will be taking on the likes of the Honda Civic and the Hyundai Elantra in the premium sedan space. We can expect the new Skoda Octavia to retain its familiar characteristics of being feature-packed, well-built and fun to drive just like it’s predecessors over the years.
