It is all but certain that Skoda will be bringing the next generation of their premium sedan, the Octavia to the Indian market. The upcoming model of the Skoda Octavia will be its fourth generation globally, with all of them having been launched in India during the years gone by. News of the next generation Octavia coming to India was confined by Skoda itself during the first months of 2020.
In fact, Skoda also discontinued the third generation Skoda Octavia here in order to make space for the upcoming model of the car. Thus, it soon became a matter of when the premium sedan will mark a return to the Indian market. In response to that, Skoda said that the new Octavia was on its way and is set be coming in early 2021.
Well, the new Skoda Octavia was recently spotted on the outskirts of Pune. The car looked to be on a test run and surprisingly did not sport any camouflage. Thus, it became evident that the launch of Skoda’s most popular product here is around the corner.
Changes to its exterior include it’s front end having a bigger grille and single piece LED headlamps. On the rear end, there is a Skoda lettering above the tailgate instead of the brand’s logo in addition to the LED tail-lamps surrounding it. The new Octavia has a more sloping roofline and is seen with a new set of alloy wheels.
The next generation Skoda Octavia more or less looks like a scaled down version of the new Superb, which got launched here just recently. Though there are no pictures clicked on its interior, they are expected to be the same as the Euro-spec model of the Octavia. The car might also share a few bits with the new Superb, including quite a few features.
These include dual-zone climate control, reverse parking sensors and a digital instrument display to name a few. When it comes to safety, the Skoda Octavia would be featuring both front and side airbags, Electronic Stability Control, ABS as well as EBD. On the engine front, we will be seeing a 2.0 litre TSI petrol motor under the hood of the car.
This engine was recently upgraded to the BS-VI emission norms and produces 190 BHP of power. Skoda had revealed that the next generation Skoda Octavia will only be available with a petrol motor amidst the uncertainty of diesels in India. This comes as a surprise because diesel has always been a strong selling point on their cars which in turn made Skoda popular in India.
We can expect Skoda to price the new Octavia at around Rs.15-18 lakh, which is on par with its rivals. These include the Honda Civic and the Hyundai Elantra representing the premium sedan space here. Skoda will hope that the next generation Skoda Octavia not only gets some demand but also reignites the interest of buyers in purchasing premium sedans.
