The 2017 Honda City facelift has just been launched in India, available in five trim levels: S, SV, V, VX and ZX, price starting from Rs 8.49 lakh, and going up to Rs 13.56 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The facelifted City features cosmetic updates to the exterior along with the addition of a new top variant and a revised equipment list. Now sitting a top-of-the-line is a new ZX trim that replaces the VX(O) trim from the previous-gen model. Interestingly, this variant can be optioned only as petrol automatic or a diesel manual.
The revised City wears a more grown-up design which is similar to that of new gen Civic / Accord, and not like that of the Honda City Griez on-sale in China. Cosmetic changes to the exterior include re-designed bumpers, new grille, full LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, 16-inch diamond cut alloys on the top trims, 15-inch alloys on the V trim and wheel caps on the lower trims. Furthermore, the ZX trim gets LED tail lamps and a rear spoiler.
Step-inside, the City facelift comes with leather upholstery on door pads, steering wheel, seats and gear lever. The top variants V, VX and ZX also get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, 1.5 GB memory, MirrorLink phone connectivity, rear view camera and voice recognition. The audio system gets 4 speakers and 4 tweeters. The S and SV variants get a non-touchscreen audio system with aux-in, USB and 4 speakers.
As far as safety is concerned, the new City features dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX seat mounts and engine immobiliser are offered as standard equipment across all variants while the ZX also gets side and curtain airbags. Cruise control is available from the SV trim onwards. The ZX variant gets automatic headlights, automatic wipers and LED cabin lights. Apart from the base S trim, all other trims get automatic climate control and rear AC vents.
The updated City employs a 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines carry forward unchanged. The i-VTEC petrol motor continues to produce 118 HP and 145 Nm and it is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 7-step CVT. The oil-burner i-DTEC develops 99 HP and 200 Nm, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
The ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency for the manual petrol is 17.4 KMPL and for the CVT petrol it is 18 KMPL, while the diesel is rated at 25.6 KMPL.
A total of four colours are available on the revised City – White Orchid Pearl, Carnelian Red Pearl, Modern Steel Metallic, Golden Brown Metallic and Alabaster Silver Metallic, and like all other Honda cars the City facelift too comes with a three-year/unlimited kilometre warranty which can be extended to five years.
