New 160cc Honda Motorcycle in the offing; launch by August-2014

Time and again, we have been stressing on the fact that the low-capacity, high-performance motorcycle segment is the fastest growing motorcycle segment in the world. The maximum contribution to this growth is from the quarter-liter class, but even the lower capacity 150-180cc class plays a major role in this growth.

This segment was started more than a decade ago by the hero honda CBZ and then the Bajaj Pulsar 150 and 180, and has come a long way since. Today, this segment has bikes like the Yamaha YZF-R15, Yamaha FZ-S, Yamaha Fazer, Honda CBR-150R, TVS Apache 160 Fi, TVS Apache 180 Fi, Bajaj Pulsar 150, Bajaj Pulsar 180, and Honda CB Trigger fighting it out for the top spot.

Competiton in this segment was already hot with these existing bikes, but there are reports emerging of bikes which will be launched in the future and will spice things up considerably in this segment. Some of these reports are of bikes which are updates or refreshes to the existing models, and some are those of all-new bikes being developed.

One such report is of Honda launching two new motorcyles within the next four months, the report states that one will be a dream series motorcycle which, in Honda’s nomenclature stands for its commuter bikes, and the other bike will be a sporty 160cc Motorcycle, targeted at young first time buyers.

Right now, Honda has not released any information regarding the specifications of the bike, but we are sure that this bike will be targeted against the upcoming Suzuki Gixxer, which will be powered by a 155cc, Single-cylinder engine and also the upcoming, next-gen Yamaha FZ which will sport an engine with a higher displacement than the the current FZ. So, honda too will follow similar lines with regard to specifications or might go one step further and launch the bike with better specifications than that of its competitors.

The new Sporty commuter from Honda is expected to retail for around INR 90,000.
