Mahindra & Mahindra had released a video earlier this month that demonstrated the New Thar’s off-road capabilities. It appears to have been filmed on a Mahindra test track and you’ll find a prototype of a compact SUV build in the background if you look closely.
The prototype turns up in the video at the 45 second mark. In the distance, the compact SUV can be seen running in the banked section of the track. While deciding on what this car could be is difficult, it appears to be smaller than the XUV300.
Mahindra currently offers the KUV100 NXT in the sub-compact SUV category. It is powered by a 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder BS6-compliant petrol engine, which produces 82 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 115 Nm @ 3,500-3,600 rpm. The engine is fitted with a manual five-speed transmission.
Mahindra’s Rajesh Jejurikar had earlier confirmed that the carmaker is planning to concentrate on SUVs rather than crossovers and will not hit markets where it has no competitive advantage. So, assuming Mahindra isn’t preparing to join a new segment with the new model would be secure.
