Mitsubishi Motors India has re-introduced the Mitsubishi Montero in the country. Bookings has already commenced across Mitsubishi dealerships in India for Rs. 10 lakh.
In the second innings, the Montero with additional features comes at whopping price of Rs 70.43 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) as it is being brought here via the Completely-Built-Unit (CBU) route. However, the deliveries are expected to start from October-2016. It was discontinued from the Indian market in 2014, due to poor demand and commanding price of Rs 40 lakh a bit much for a non-luxury brand.
Now with the steep price, it will be interesting to see if the Montero finds buyers, especially with the added features like a new full-length grille bordered by 2-large vertical chrome bars, reworked headlamps and front bumper featuring LED positioning lights, spare wheel mounted on the tailgate, revised side cladding and new set of alloy wheels.
The soon-to-be-launched Montero is based on the same platform and the engine. Powered by an 3.2-litre unit turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 189bhp and 441Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 5-speed automatic transmission. But this unit now churns-out 10hp less than the old motor. The torque figure and the 5-speed automatic gearbox remain unchanged.
