Mahindra & Mahindra, executive director, Pawan Goenka, speaking to ET Auto has said that the petrol variants of the Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra XUV500 are in the works for launch this year!
He commented the follow;
“Despite being a diesel player, we had a feeling that a diesel-only approach may not be good enough. Now, we will launch the Scorpio and XUV500 in petrol this year and in future all vehicles will have both options.”
The move appears to be a response to the ban on diesel cars which is likely to be extended to 11 Indian cities, the company has reportedly invested Rs 1,000 crore to develop petrol engines over two to three year period for its product range. The new petrol engines by Mahindra will be co-developed with SsangYong Motor Company (SMC) and are rumored to be of 1.5L, 1.6L and 2.2L displacements.
